SUMMARY:Digital sovereignty for boards: navigating Europe’s push for technological resilience , with EY
DESCRIPTION:Digital sovereignty has moved from a policy slogan to a practical governance question. On 3 June 2026, the European Commission presented the European Technological Sovereignty Package, a set of measures aimed at strengthening Europe’s capacity in semiconductors, AI, cloud and open source, while reducing reliance on non-EU providers for critical digital technologies. The package includes two legislative proposals — the Chips Act 2.0 and the Cloud and AI Development Act — as well as an EU Open Source Strategy and a Strategic Roadmap for Digitalization and AI in Energy.\nFor boards, the question is not whether companies should become fully “sovereign” or self-sufficient. Rather, it is how organizations should understand and manage their exposure to critical digital dependencies — including cloud infrastructure, AI systems, data flows, software supply chains, cybersecurity risks and geopolitical disruption. This makes digital sovereignty a board-level issue linked to resilience, risk appetite, competitiveness, compliance and long-term strategic choice.\nStart time: 20th October, 11am CET\n
